This affordable hairdresser, located close to the Dappermarkt, offers cuts, colour, and hair extensions. They also do beauty treatments, and bridal hair and makeup. Your child can get their hair cut there too. You can book online. Open Monday to Saturday, with late service (until 9pm) on a Thursday.

El Encanto Hairsalon By Louise

Reguliersdwarsstraat 33, Centrum

Louise is specialised in cuts for both men and woman. You can also get make-up and bridal hair done there.You can book online. Closed on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Kelly Cormack (Mobile hairdresser)

Kelly, a fellow Amsterdam mama, is recommended time and time again by our community. She is based in Noord, but travels all over to cut people’s hair. She also does kids’ haircuts. Contact her via her personal Facebook page. She is fairly flexible with her hours and will often work weekends and evenings.

De Knip Bar

Hoofdweg 79, West

A hair salon and coffee bar in one. They offer cuts and colour at an affordable price and get great reviews. They also do very cheap cuts for kids. You can book online. Open Tuesday to Sunday.

Nederlandse Kappersakademie

Weteringschans 167, Centrum

Despite the fact they are students training to be hairdressers, they are strictly supervised and have never disappointed us. The cuts are particularly cheap. They also offer permanent colour, highlights, and various beauty treatments. You can book online. Open Monday to Saturday.

The Graduates

Overtoom 35, West

The Graduates are some of the very best ex-students of the B Academy, a hairdressing school in Amsterdam. They offer cuts, colours, highlights, and treatments at reasonable prices. Open Monday to Saturday.

Adri Hairstyling

Willemsparkweg 170, Zuid

Located in the heart of the Old South, this salon is a favourite with Amsterdam Mamas’ director, Emmy McCarthy. Adri, the owner, has been cutting hair for over 30 years and knows what she’s doing. For fabulous colour, ask for Sam. Open Tuesday to Saturday.

Devils & Angels

Vijzelgracht 61, Centrum

If you want something trendy, this salon prides itself on doing edgy, up-to-date styles. They will help you to discover what you like and what suits you. They also offer massages and make-up. You can book online. Open from Tuesday to Saturday. 

George de Keijzer

Overtoom 524, West

George and his team are great at choosing the perfect colour for your hair. Check out the online videos to see them in action. They also cut children’s hair, although it’s quite expensive. You can book online. Open Tuesday to Saturday. On Wednesdays and Thursdays they are open until 9pm.

Oh You Pretty Things

Spuistraat 53, Centrum

Karen is highly recommended by the Mamas, especially if you like more conservative highlights – many and thin. We also love Aziza for bolder and edgier colour. If you are looking for balayage, Antonio is brilliant. This salon is also recommended for cuts. You can book online or contact your favourite hairdresser directly. Open Tuesday to Saturday. 

Renae Zechner’s Colour Lounge

Ceintuurbaan 234, Zuid

Renae Zechner, an Amsterdam Mama from Australia and former head colourist with Rob Peetoom, specialises in organic products and gets rave reviews for her cuts and colours. The salon is relaxing, the prices are reasonable, and Renae pays close attention to detail. You can book online. Open Tuesday to Saturday, with late night cuts (until 9pm) from Tuesday to Thursday.

Gravenstraat 22, Centrum and Willemsparkweg 30, Zuid

The mamas recommend both Amsterdam branches of this popular salon and like it for both cuts and colours. For curly hair, try Emke in the Zuid branch. No hidden costs and great results. With expertise in all the latest trends and a team that are trained in the salon’s own college, The Color is the place to go if you are seeking a specialist colour salon. Simcha & Friends are a curly hair specialist. They know everything about it. On Wednesday and Thursday, they have a late-night service and stay open until 10pm. Open Wednesday to Saturday. 


Best for Cuts

Francesca Bombardi (Mobile Hairdresser)

Francesa is a great option if you cannot find a good salon in your area as she will come and cut your hair in your own home. She cuts well and is good with colour, which she offers at a very affordable rate. She can also do hair extensions. Francesca is also great with kids. She is very flexible about days and times.

Azartplein 2b, Oost

A colourful salon which was is frequently recommended by our members. They have branches across Amsterdam and beyond, but the Oost salon is a firm favourite with the mamas. Kinki are also great at doing more unusual, experimental colours. You can book online. Open Monday to Saturday.

Phillip de Ritis

Pieter Baststraat 35, Zuid

Phillip is the hairdresser of choice for many of our Mamas. He’s very friendly and speaks Dutch, English, French and Italian. Mamas like the relaxing, peaceful environment of the salon and the care that Phillip takes care to match the haircut to the preferences of the client. Open Tuesday to Saturday.

Scissorhands

Raamsteeg 3, Centrum

Andy is an extremely polite, friendly and talented hairdresser, according to our Mamas. He is great at cutting all hair types.

Shampoo Planet

Passeerdersstraat 45, Centrum

Fantastic team of Dutch and English hairdressers who pay attention to detail and really listen to what you want. Ask for Richa or Chris if you want foil highlights. Popular with expats. Open Tuesday to Saturday.
