Hello Reader,

As we settle into the New year, Amsterdam proves that cold Winter weekends can still be full of warmth, creativity and fun. Even in January, the city offers plenty of reasons to head out and enjoy hands-on workshops, storytelling moments, classic Winter activities and so much more. This weekend brings a small but lovely mix of events for families with children of all ages, from toddlers to early teens.

Events happening this weekend

Winter Wonder Workshop – Cinderella Dance Workshop (Saturday 24 January)
A joyful dance and movement workshop inspired by Cinderella, created especially for children. Led by professionals from the Dutch National Opera & Ballet, children explore storytelling through music and movement in an accessible, playful way. Workshops are divided by age group.

IJ-Hallen Flea Market at NDSM Wharf (Saturday 24 & Sunday 25 January)
One of Europe’s largest indoor flea markets returns to the NDSM Wharf. With hundreds of stalls selling toys, books, clothes and small treasures, it can be a fun and relaxed outing with children for a short browse and a warm drink.

Nationale Voorleesdagen Activities at OBA (Sunday 25 January)
As part of the National Reading Days, OBA libraries across Amsterdam host reading moments and small activities for toddlers and young children. A cosy, low-key activity that fits perfectly into a winter weekend.

Skating on Museumplein – until 6 February 2026
The ice rink on Museumplein remains open for a few more weeks, offering skating with the beautiful backdrop of the Rijksmuseum. Skating aids are available for younger children, making it accessible for beginners.

In addition to weekend activities, libraries across the city continue to celebrate the joy of reading with story times and themed events for young children throughout the week.
