Hello Reader, Happy New Year! We hope you’ve had a good start to 2026. After a well-deserved break we’re back with the best kid-friendly shows and activities happening in Amsterdam. The holidays may be over, but there’s still plenty to do, from concerts to workshops to football and ice-skating! Events happening this weekend Groove Beast Family Concert: Nawras Altaky Quartet at Bimhuis – Sunday 11 January Syrian musician Nawras Altaky invites you to join him on an musical adventure with the oud, a centuries-old stringed instrument full of stories. Together with his friends, he will play music from the Silk Road, spanning India, the Arab world and Europe. Old rhythms and sounds will come to life, taking you on a captivating journey through time and cultures. Before the concert, you can join a Soundlab Workshop where you’ll learn to play various jazz grooves. You don’t need to be able to read music or play an instrument to enjoy this fun experience. Ruige Rakkers – Children’s activities at Pllek – Sunday 11 January from 13:00 Ruige Rakkers (Rough Rascals) is a fun Sunday activity on NDSM wharf for kids between 4 and 12 years old. Every week between 13:00 and 16:00 you can just walk in and join a different activity. This week: Repair Kid! Repair Kid is a travelling caravan that gives children the space to explore how appliances work by giving them the opportunity to demolish them (with tools and under supervision of course). The children can then make art with the leftovers, to show that absolutely NOTHING needs to be thrown away. Free entry! Find out more here. From Italy to Brazil with Martina – Concert at Munganga – Sunday 11 January A concert designed for young children and their families: a sound journey between two countries connected by rich musical traditions, filled with joyful rhythms, playful melodies, and timeless songs passed down through generations. Through voice and guitar, Martina presents a lively and engaging selection of Italian and Brazilian children’s songs, reimagined with warmth and simplicity. The melodies are inviting and easy to follow, encouraging spontaneous singing, natural movement, and active listening. Blending musical rhymes, traditional tunes, and rhythmic surprises, children are gently guided into a rich soundscape full of colours, words, and imagination for an experience that will spark their curiosity and musicality. Book your tickets here. Ongoing activities Skating on Museumplein – until 6th February Go skating with a beautiful backdrop of the Rijksmuseum on Museumplein! Kickbase football playground – Amstelveen Kickbase is a new indoor football playground in Amstelveen. With interactive football challenges, energetic games and a great atmosphere, it offers a unique mix of competition, fun and unforgettable moments for everyone aged 6 and up, no matter their skill level. Movelab at Move Amsterdam At Move Lab Kids Expo, children aged 6 to 12 can discover how mobility works in a playful way, from designing and building to moving around the city. Design your own unique vehicle, test your precision and experience the excitement of your first driving lesson. The lab has two zones: Zone 1: The Making Of: Everything about the design, production, technology and history of cars and bicycles. Zone 2: Streetwise: Learn how to move around the city smartly, quickly and safely, and discover how mobility will influence the world of tomorrow. Upcoming events Podium Zonder Dremple – De Nieuwe Anita – Wednesday 14 January 13:00-15:00 De Nieuwe Anita is a small alternative cultural venue that occasionally hosts events for children. On Wednesday 14 January a group of students who organise fun activities for kids will transform the venue into paradise for play and dance for children aged 1 to 6! Kids can jump, sing, build and have fun, while parents or babysitters can join in or relax with a hot drink. Upon arrival, every child will receive a free glass of cordial.
