April is in full swing, and there’s plenty to explore! As Spring settles in, children can stay active and inspired with exciting happenings across the city. From hands-on workshops to outdoor adventures, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Events Happening This Weekend
B! Music School Open Day Learn to sing (solo or in a choir), play the drums, piano, guitar, cello or violin, or try DJing! On Saturday 18 April, come and try a range of music, choral and dance offerings. In addition, enjoy performances by the Southeast Community Choir Young and Pearls with a Mission. Find out more here.
Flower Festival Noordwijk From Saturday 11 April to Sunday 19 April, admire forty colourful hyacinth mosaics in De Zilk, including works ranging from traditional designs to 3D creations. Find out more here.
Kodomo no Hi at the Wereldmuseum On Saturday 18 April, get creative in preparation for Kodomo no Hi, a Japanese tradition celebrated on 5 May and dedicated to children. Families mark the occasion with games, stories and traditions, including hanging colourful koi carp streamers that symbolise strength and perseverance. Bread Baking at Speelboerderij Elsenhove On Sunday 19 April, visit Speelboerderij Elsenhove to meet farm animals, explore a large natural playground, and learn about nature, the environment and sustainability. Discover Cricket at Amsterdam Cricket Club – 4 Free Training Sessions for Children Looking for a fun, inclusive and social sport in Amsterdam? ACC Cricket Club welcomes children aged 5+ to try cricket with four free training sessions—no experience needed and all equipment provided. Outdoor training begins Sunday 2 April, with matches in Spring and Summer, and indoor training during Winter. Children aged 7+ can join league teams, while younger children (5–9) can enjoy Tip & Run sessions every Friday evening. Find out more here.
Super Young Creatives Festival Do you like dancing? Want to learn how to make your own jewellery? Or stop by for make-up and a pancake? On Saturday 25 April, De Levende Leeuw and the OBA present the Super Young Creatives Festival to kick off the May holidays. Fiep Westendorp Rijksmuseum Exhibition From Friday 19 June to Sunday 13 September, visit an exhibition featuring beloved characters such as Jip and Janneke, Otje, Pluk van de Petteflet, and Pim and Pom. IJburg Beach Obstacle Run On Saturday 27 June, the fourth edition of the IJburg Obstacle Run takes place on IJburg beach. Gather your friends, family or colleagues and test your endurance, teamwork and courage on this challenging course. Each participant receives an Obstacle Run shirt. Meivakantie Day Camps
Terragon Nature Camps Day camps for children aged 4–10, offering immersive outdoor experiences in a safe and nurturing setting. Activities take place in a protected nature area and include storytelling, hands-on exploration, and creative play. Station West Looking for something more creative this Meivakantie? Station West offers teens the opportunity to explore the city through drawing.
