'Christmas concerts are rarely more heart-warming than this one' says NRC in a 5-star review on Christmas Play. It has become a huge tradition, our end-of-year family performances. We work together with world famous Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra led by maestro Ton Koopman. Christmas Play's musical heart are the superb arrangements that Ton Koopman made of Christmas carols as Nu syt well come and We come from the east. A very special part is played by Dieuwertje Blok in her interpretation of Mary in a later age looking back on these special days in her life. The Netherlands and other north-western European countries have a unique repertoire of Christmas and Advent songs, partly even stemming from the Middle Ages. Although banned during the Reformation they have, thanks to their artistic strength and strong melodies, survived historical storms. Ton Koopman has been a true advocate for this valuable music, by arranging them for baroque orchestra, children's and youth choir. They can be heard again this year in this enchanting musical play, a concept of Caro Kindt. Christmas play 2017: no less than four mesmerizing performances with all 300 students of Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam! Tickets for the four performances and more info:
