B! Music School Open Day

Kodomo no Hi at the Wereldmuseum
​On Saturday 18 April, get creative in preparation for Kodomo no Hi, a Japanese tradition celebrated on 5 May and dedicated to children. Families mark the occasion with games, stories and traditions, including hanging colourful koi carp streamers that symbolise strength and perseverance. Bread Baking at Speelboerderij Elsenhove
​On Sunday 19 April, visit Speelboerderij Elsenhove to meet farm animals, explore a large natural playground, and learn about nature, the environment and sustainability. ​Looking for a fun, inclusive and social sport in Amsterdam? ACC Cricket Club welcomes children aged 5+ to try cricket with four free training sessions—no experience needed and all equipment provided. Outdoor training begins Sunday 2 April, with matches in Spring and Summer, and indoor training during Winter. Super Young Creatives Festival

You could also take a day trip outside Amsterdam to admire the flower sculptures in de Zilk and cycle past beautiful tulip fields. And of course there’s also plenty to do in the city this weekend, whether you want to enjoy a family concert together, visit a market or do some volunteering. Read on to discover our best tips!

Events Happening This Weekend

De Zilk Flower Mosaics – Saturday 11 & Sunday 12 April

This weekend you can cycle around de Zilk near Hillegom to admire the incredible flower sculptures and mosaics on display. The exact route​ will be published on Friday. As well as this display of sculptures, there will also be flower parades in nearby villages next weekend – check out the full list of events ​here​. There will probably be heavy traffic between Amsterdam and the tulip fields over the next few weekends, so why not opt to take your bikes on the train to Hillegom, for a less stressful and greener journey? Clean up Vondelpark with Serve the City – Saturday 11 April

Vondelpark is a second home for many of us, with its fun playgrounds and cafés, paddling pool in summer and sometimes even snowball fights or ice-skating in winter. But sadly our beautiful park is often blighted by litter. Now you can give back and join a team of volunteers to help clean it up. Sign up on ​Serve the City’s website​.

Mundo Sonora at Podium Mozaïek – Sunday 12 April

Over 50 musicians perform a colourful repertoire from the Middle East, ranging from sweet love songs to infectious dance music.

This concert brings together two musical families: Orchestre Partout and Groot Excelsior. The latter have been making music in Amsterdam for generations, while the musicians of Orchestre Partout have recently moved to Amsterdam’s asylum seekers’ centre and they play together there every week.

Lolobaki in concert at Munganga – Sunday 12 April

Lolobaki tells the story of a stone that travels the world, encountering animals along the way who teach it lessons. This allows the stone to find itself through others.

Pure Markt at Amstelpark – Sunday 12 April

Amsterdam’s travelling Sunday market returns to Amstelpark this weekend with food and drink from around the world as well as vintage, designer and gift items. You can find out more on the Pure Markt website​.

Amstelpark also offers a mini-golf course, fairground rides and a train that travels a loop around the whole park, making it a fun day out for the whole family!

Please note that the main playground is currently closed for renovations, but the fairground rides are still accessible.

Visit Pampus Island – from 1 April onwards

Pampus is a historic fortified island, living fort museum, and sustainable adventure in the middle of the IJmeer.

Tulip Festival all around Amsterdam – 1-30 April

At over 100 locations across the city, you can walk or cycle past colourful tulips in public spaces this April. Hundreds of thousands of tulips will brighten up streets, squares and bridges all over Amsterdam under the motto: “a tulip for every Amsterdammer”. Spring Celebration at De Ceuvel – 18 April

On Saturday 18 April Café De Ceuvel is hosting a spring celebration! This seasonal celebration centres around food. Because as soon as everything starts sprouting and teeming with life again, the story behind what we eat begins too: from soil and seed to bee, plant and human. During the Spring Celebration, you can dive into that living food system through fun workshops, mini safaris, circular bites, talks, documentaries, music and theatre. BIoBlitz Nature Festival – 25 April in Noorderpark

Attention young explorers and nature lovers! On Saturday 25 April, Eco Kids and Stichting Spin are organising Bioblitz for Kids, a free nature festival for all children aged 4 to 12. We’ll be heading into Noorderpark together to explore, learn and above all, have lots of fun. From tiny creepy-crawlies to big green adventures, it’s all about wonder and connecting with nature. The facilitator will give you surprising questions that ensure the conversations move beyond small talk, and that you really learn something special about the other person, and probably about yourself too! In collaboration with WOW Family Centre, Amsterdam Mamas is hosting a special Easter event on Saturday, 4 April, at their Rivierenbuurt location on Churchill-laan 86. These festive workshops are divided into two sessions (10:00–11:30 and 12:00–13:30) and offer a wonderful “Play with Art” experience combined with Toddler Sense activities, including a short music and movement session in the gym. Families can also enjoy free play time and a relaxing cup of coffee or tea in the Little Café, all for a special price of €15 per child.

In this month’s edition of the monthly Sunday Market at Westergas, the family-friendly market transforms into a festive Easter celebration from 12:00 to 18:00 on 5 April. The market is conveniently located at the Westerpark, making it easy to wander between the food stalls and the carousel and ensuring there is plenty of space for your kids to run around under the spring sunshine.

Easter at Willet-Holthuysen House

Throughout the holiday weekend from 4 to 6 April, the Willet-Holthuysen House invites families to discover a hidden gem in the heart of the canal district. Kids can participate in a traditional egg hunt in the grand 17th-century garden between 10:00 and 15:00, while the “Easter Studio” remains open until 17:00 for colouring and crafts. It is a wonderful way to combine a bit of local history with festive fun, and children can even win a small prize for finding the hidden eggs.

GRIMM: Hiphop meets Ballet

Looking slightly further ahead, the hit production GRIMM is returning to Amsterdam theatres this May and June, offering an imaginative mashup of the Brothers Grimm’s most famous fairy tales. This high-energy performance features a collaboration between the Junior Company of the Dutch National Opera & Ballet and the ISH Dance Collective, blending classical elegance with sharp popping and locking moves. Nature Kids Camp at Terragon

Terragon Nature Lab is offering Spring Nature Camps for children aged 4–10 from 6 April to 1 May. Located at a private forest site in Oud-Osdorp, the programme features a mix of nature play, outdoor games, and seasonal crafts. The daily sessions run from 09:00 to 15:00 and are conducted in small groups with experienced supervision and a high counsellor-to-child ratio. Parents can also take advantage of the pick-up service from central locations or the on-site parking for drop-offs. The workshop will include an arts & crafts activity, followed by a short music and movement session in the gym. The remaining time will be for free play, and families can also enjoy coffee or tea.

A colourful spring parade with dancing flower girls, bees, bunnies, and other characters, including a life-sized Easter bunny. Super fun and cheerful! So get into the spring spirit and shop at Gelderlandplein on the 28th. The spring parade lasts 45 minutes and takes place four times between 12:00 and 16:30.

Diep at De Krakeling – Friday 13th March

Who owns the sea? Does a fish feel free? Do you exist if you haven’t been discovered? Descend to the depths of the ocean, far away from land and humans. Here in the darkness, the most wondrous animals and organisms pass by. Diep is a show with fantastic luminous creatures and live music.

Foyer activity: Before and after the show, descend into the deepest depths and create your own deep-sea creature. By thinking about the special powers needed to survive in the depths and using all kinds of challenging drawing materials, you can let your imagination run wild.

On Saturday, you can spend the day swapping toys and children’s clothing at De Hallen in Amsterdam West. There will also be fun recycling workshops, and you can get your broken toys repaired by Repair Café Jeltje.

Ruige Rakkers craft workshop for kids at Pllek – Sunday 15th March

Everyone between the ages of 4 and 12 is welcome to drop by and join in the fun every Sunday afternoon at Pllek. There is a different workshop each week, and this Sunday you can enjoy craft activities with the Feesttantes! Hang up decorations, make headdresses and hairbands, design bags and hula hoop to your heart’s content. Free entrance. Find out more ​here​.

Nature safari at De Ceuvel – Sunday 15th March

Join a mini nature safari for kids and their grown-ups every third Sunday of the month. This Sunday’s safari is about birds and nests.

Put on your binoculars and head out with bird expert Randy. He’ll show you which birds are hiding here, from great crested grebes to kingfishers. This time of the year there are fewer leaves on the trees, so you can spot nests more easily. How do birds build a nest without hands? Grow your bird knowledge while you spot awesome birds, and get hands on by building a nest-material holder for them. Do you have binoculars? Bring them along! No binoculars? No problem, there are a few pairs available to borrow.

The safari starts at 11:00 and will end between 12:00 and 12:30.

The Junior Company and ISH Dance Collective bring together well-known fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm in a high-energy dance production that blends multiple styles. Since it’s the tail end of the Voorjaarsvakantie period in the Netherlands, there are several special workshops and outdoor fun activities running this weekend. Our usual favourite spots are offering Spring break specials in the next few days, so if you’re up for some interesting activities with the kids this weekend without needing a lot of travel, here are some recommendations.

Kids Crafting & Creative Workshops

Rijksmuseum: 17th-Century Creative Workshops

To wrap up the holiday, the museum is hosting a Collar-Making Workshop (create your own 17th-century ruff) and Plant Painting sessions where kids can emulate the paintings they saw in the big and grand museum and interpret them as their own. On daily until March 1 and included free of charge with your entrance fee. Plan your visit here.

ARTIS Planetarium: Sesame Street in Space

Specifically for the Spring break, the Planetarium is showing “Sesame Street & the Milky Way.” Toddlers and young children can “fly” through the stars with Tommie and Pino. Multiple shows are running daily until March 1 (11:00, 13:00, 15:00). Conveniently located at the ARTIS Zoo, Plantage Kerklaan, you can find more details here.

ARTIS Zoo Elephant Enclosure Crafts

In honour of the two new elephant calves, kids can head to the Gorilla House to design and build their own “dream elephant enclosure” using crafting materials. Daily through March 1 (11:00–15:00). Entrance is included in the ticket price.

Van Gogh Museum: “Yellow” Studio Sessions

With the theme: “Yellow” (Vincent’s favorite color), kids aged 6-12 can participate in a workshop where they paint like the Master in a real museum studio! The same theme runs every Saturday until 16 May 2026 (except on school holidays) but you can register as many times as you like. Van Gogh, after all, painted his famous artworks multiple times. Highly recommended to book tickets in advance as they sell out fast. Costs €15 including materials. Plan ahead through this link.

Etching at Rembrandt’s Home

A very “Amsterdam” experience where kids (6+) follow in Rembrandt’s footsteps. They experiment with the drypoint technique and print two of their own etchings on a large press to take home. Costs €9.95 every Saturday & Sunday (13:00–14:30) at the Museum Rembrandthuis (Centre). You will see more details here.

NEMO Science Museum

During this final holiday weekend, NEMO has extra “Chain Reaction” demonstrations and a new documentary film, Space: The New Frontier, exploring future moon missions. More information about the Spring break actvities can be found here.

A slight trip outside of Amsterdam

Muiderslot Castle:

Just outside the city, the castle is hosting “Spring Break Crafts” where kids can try weaving or help build a giant LEGO castle in the Castle Atelier. Read all about it here.

Mission to the Moon at Space Expo, Noordwijk

Blast off to Noordwijk for the final weekend of Space Expo’s “Back to the Moon” programme. The highlight is a free, interactive 25-minute show (best for ages 8+) exploring moon missions past and future, alongside hands-on spacecrafts and drawing contests for all ages. It’s a perfect indoor finale to the Spring holidays for any budding astronaut. Explore the World of Legos & Robots

​

Immerse your kids in the world of modern technology – with building, exploring, and programming, all converging. This way, the kids learn to think logically, collaborate, and be willing to make mistakes, all while bringing supercool robots to life.

The kids work in pairs, use visual block coding, and each lesson offers a new challenge that helps develop creativity and technical skills.

Each lesson lasts 90 minutes and combines explanation, design, and programming. The courses last 6–9 weeks and are perfectly suited to a variety of age groups.

Meet Your Mask – For Teens – February 28

​

Participants will make their own papier–mâché mask with Lili Huston-Herterich, who will share her research in puppetry and masquerade throughout the making process. In later sessions, the group will learn how to use their masks with the dramaturgical guidance of an object-based theatre maker. The workshop will culminate in a public event at Hartwig Proxy.. Fun for everyone ages 12 and up.
