The Mamas Recommend: Brunch in Amsterdam

August 04, 2012 By Editorial Team Comments

Our Mamas are hungry for brunch recommendations. Here's a list of the most recommended places by our group.

Looking for a place to enjoy smashed avocado, smoked salmon on rye, poached or benedict eggs with friends and family during brunch? We came up with a list. Have one to add? Email to include your favourite brunches in Amsterdam.

Multiple Locations

Bakers & Roasters
Centrum|De Pijp

B&R is a New Zealand style café served with a heavy dose of Brazil. Its open kitchen serves brunch dishes, fresh fruit salads, and kiwi-twisted baked goods all day long.

De Bakkerswinkel
Centrum|West|Zuid

For readymade sandwiches, sweet and savoury pastries, homemade fruit shakes or simply a tasty cup of coffee to drink on the spot or to take with you.

Le Pain Quotidien
Centrum|Zuid|De Pijp

Rustic comfort where communal tables are the centerpiece. The simply handmade bread serves as the canvas for a myriad of organic and seasonal ingredients.

Drovers Dog
Oost|Zuid

A robust coffee culture coupled with a refined kitchen culture in a relaxed atmosphere.

Vascobelo
Rijnstraat, Scheltema, Stadionplein & NoMa House

Famous for its Belgian chocolate, this library-look cafe with holstered waiters is known for good brunches and provides seating arrangement for couples, small groups and a room (that you need to pre-book) for large groups of up to 12 people.

Centrum

Café George

The proverbial French-brasserie-in-New-York…in Amsterdam. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner from 11 through 23 – all day, every day.

De Drie Graefjes

For big slices of homemade cakes, a rich lunch menu, and perfect coffee.

Gartine

Authentic regional products that follow the principles of Slow Food.

Greenwoods

Amsterdam's first English tea room with a focus on high-quality tea/coffee. As much of the menu as possible is homebaked and made on the premises.

Mooks Pancakes

MOOK is short for ‘Mokum’, slang for Amsterdam. Pancakes with seasonal fruit. (These pancakes are not gluten free.)

De Pijp

Little Collins

A tribute by the Australian owners to their home city of Melbourne. A brunch menu is available from Wednesday to Sunday.

Coffee & Coconuts

A large, two storey establishment in a beautiful old theater.

Jordaan

G's Really Nice Place

A team with a love affair for brunch and bloody marys (12 different types). There is a brunch boat sailing every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Oost

Langendijk

Situated next to the Gooyer mill, here you can dock to take away something or sit on one of their sunny terraces.

Café Restaurant De Ysbreeker

The sun-drenched (on sunny days!) terrace is a popular destination on the Amstel river.

Rivierenbuurt

Café @7

A "deli" open seven days a week for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Also offering special Brazilian fruit shakes, tasty coffee, pastries, a pot of tea with warm apple pie, or a sumptuous high tea.

Bruist

A small, cozy and intimate place with friendly service and an area at the back with a sofa, armchairs and a ready selection of toys and books. This is popular with local parents because of the toys' corner. It's opened seven days a week.

West

Café Restaurant Amsterdam   (reservations needed for Easter Brunch)

Situated in the old engine room of a restored Pumping Station for almost 20 years.

Staring at Jacob

A healthy, creative brunch based on American-inspired comfort food and amazing cocktails served all day.

Teds

The flavours of the world gathered on your plate, always in TEDS-style: lowkey, sturdy and honest. All day brunch.

Lot Sixty One

The cafe on Kinkerstraat might be small, but the coffee packs a punch. The range of food is small (croissants, banana bread and muffins) but their coffee is a popular destination for Australian coffee snobs!

Zuid

Dignita - Eat Well Do Good

Brunch at any time of day. All items on the menu are professionally crafted, ethically and/or locally-sourced whenever possible, and created from scratch with fresh ingredients.

Slowth Brunch  (10am-5pm)

Slowth Brunch is a cozy brunch café in Amsterdam Oud-Zuid with dishes that are reminiscent of Taiwan and Japan.
